Hung Shing Temple -Architectures features

This temple has some specific features. For me the architecture of a temple is very important. I like to know how a building or a construction can stand up. Even the temple is small the structure of it is complex like always in Chinese architecture. It’s only one building with two halls and three bays.

The temple is only compose by one building which is small because the temple has only 3-jian. I noticed that there are 4 stone columns in front of the temple with two beam with sculpture in every beam. I believe that, it helps to support the roof. Normally the building form consists in three portions: the platform, the Body and the roof but here there is no platform. The temple was built directly on the floor which is unusual because most of the time the temple is put on platform for avoid water infiltration and moisture...

As we can see in this picture there is two little courtyard on the left and the right of the temple. there are symmetrically opposite which is usual in Chinese architecture. In one of the courtyard there is a pagoda. The roof is a kind of usual roof. It’s a flush gable roof in the two halls but in the middle the roof is a gable-and-hip roof. This type of roof is often used in Chinese Architecture.

When I was inside the temple, I directly saw the framing structure because the wall is only an enclosure that support itself. This is typical from Chinese architecture the roof and floors is supported only by columns and beams

Another thing that I liked, was all the materials used. Indeed the temple is in wood, bricks and also stone. All columns are in stone besides the beams are in wood. The last material is the brick which is used for the walls of the temple.

Even if it’s a small temple it worth it to go there. I really like it because it was calm, no many tourists go there. Moreover, for me this temple has all architectures features of Chinese architecture. So if you’ve never been visiting a temple go see it !
